This is the commitment of the EU Commission, the European hydrogen industry association Hydrogen Europe and the scientific community of 131 universities specialising in renewable hydrogen. Hydrogen projects are developed and implemented in so-called Hydrogen Valleys. They are also a supply and demand cluster for green hydrogen. There are currently 38 such projects in the EU, including five in Germany. According to EU Research Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, the number of operating Hydrogen Valleys is to be doubled by 2025.

The background to this is the target in the RepowerEU plan to produce 10 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually in the EU by 2030. In this context, the EU Commission had provided 200 million euros to accelerate the introduction of Hydrogen Valleys in the EU. The EU research programme Horizon Europe is also supporting the market ramp-up with 1 billion euros. This amount must also be raised by industry and research partners.
