Hydex weekly report (week 14): Hydrogen prices are on the rise
Due to the decreasing wind and solar feed-in, the short-term electricity markets corrected upwards again last week.

Spot prices rose significantly by 33 per cent in a weekly comparison. This also significantly increased the production costs for green hydrogen. The Hydex 'Green' was quoted at an average of 182 €/MWh (6.07 €/kg), which is 36 €/MWh (1.22 €/kg) higher than in the previous week.

The gas markets also increased significantly due to the cooler temperature forecasts and the resulting increase in demand. Short-term gas prices increased by 7 per cent week-on-week despite stable LNG deliveries. As a result, the cost prices for the production of conventional hydrogen also increased. Hydex 'Blue' and Hydex 'Grey' were quoted at an average of 97 €/MWh (3.25 €/kg) and 104 €/MWh (3.48 €/kg), respectively, and thus 4 €/MWh (0.15 €/kg) and 5 €/MWh (0.17 €/kg) more expensive than in the previous week.

Green hydrogen lost competitiveness compared to conventional hydrogen last week. The Hyspread 'Green-Grey' traded at an average of 78 €/MWh (2.59 €/kg) and thus 32 €/MWh (1.05 €/kg) higher than in the previous week. /Andreas Gelfort, E-Bridge Consulting

The hydrogen index Hydex is currently still cost-based and refers to the short-term production costs of three different technologies for the production of hydrogen, electrolysis (green), steam reforming with (blue) and without (grey)CO2 storage. It was developed by the consulting firm E-Bridge Consulting and appears weekly in energate's hydrogen briefing. You can also find the current status at: https://e-bridge.com/
